EIC RESPONDS TO SCOTTISH CONSULTATION ON LOW EMISSION ZONES

Ambition welcomed by EIC but scope should be extended and enforcement strengthened

EIC has responded to the Scottish Government’s consultation on Low Emission Zone regulations and guidance.

EIC welcomes Scotland’s LEZ ambition, but believe the scope needs to be extended, and the enforcement regime strengthened if it is to be successful. For example, the LEZ’s remit should be extended to more explicitly cover Transport Refrigeration Units (TRUs), and also go beyond transportation to include non-road mobile machinery (NRMM) – such as diesel generators on construction sites – which are major contributors to urban air pollution.
