LABORATORY ANALYSIS: LOOKING AHEAD TO 2022

EIC shares a busy programme for its environmental labs group

EIC’s laboratory analysis group represents the major environmental laboratories that carry out testing on soil, water and air samples to measure pollutant levels.

Building on a strong programme in 2021, the group will this year draft and publish industry guidance on asbestos in soil. Working closely with the joint industry working group for asbestos in soil, it will produce an industry approved guide to the SCA Blue Book

In addition, the group – chaired by Dr Ken Scally (Suez) – continues to explore other issues of note such as soil sampling of contaminated land and groundwater, microplastics, PFAS, C4SL, and HG248. It also manages EIC representation on BSI committees and the Government’s Brownfield Land Forum.

EIC’s Policy and Public affairs executive Michael Lunn said: “Meeting the precise requirements of specialist members working in our world-leading laboratory sector, the group helps attendees understand new developments and respond as one to policy shifts. Our upcoming work on asbestos in soil is a great example of the benefit in attending, allowing members to shape the industry for the benefit of all.”

In 2021, the group welcomed high-level speakers from the Environment Agency, Tetra Tech and the University of Hull.

The next online meeting takes place on 9 February, between 2pm and 4pm.
