THAMES WATER NAMES 10 FIRMS TO DELIVER UPGRADE PLANS

Thames Water has named 10 companies that will support its infrastructure upgrades over the next five years.

The £400m Asset, Capital and Engineering Professional Services framework covers the Asset Management Period 8 (AMP8) from 2025-2030.

Companies including AECOM, Arcadis and Costain are among those to have secured a place on the framework.

Thames Water anticipates its capital programme during AMP8 will be up to three times the size of its existing programme, as it seeks to address the twin challenge of ageing infrastructure and climate change on its assets.

The framework has sought to reduce supplier capacity risks as the industry ramps up investment and provide suppliers with clarity about upcoming project requirements.

It will give Thames Water access to engineering, environmental, commercial and programme management professional services worth up to £400m as it works to improve, maintain and innovate its water treatment works, sewage treatment works and the wider water and sewage network.

The framework has awarded agreements to:

  • AECOM
  • Arcadis
  • AtkinsRéalis
  • Binnies
  • Costain
  • CPC Project Services
  • Jacobs
  • Mott MacDonald
  • Stantec
  • Turner & Townsend

Preetinder Dhanoa, capital procurement business partner at Thames Water, said: “We are delighted to confirm these critical framework awards, which will be used to source asset engineering and capital professional services that are critical to the success of Thames Water’s AMP8 programme.

“This agreement will introduce a number of improvements to our previous arrangements, including driving value through innovation and partnership working.

“We have proposed a highly ambitious business plan for 2025-2030 based on customers’ feedback and insight.

“Our plan, if approved, will deliver a reliable, secure and affordable service for customers, while further materially improving Thames Water’s environmental footprint, and the establishment of a supplier framework sets the company up for successful delivery.”

Costain will provide support for Thames Water with programme management, benefits management, change control and transition plans for the delivery of operational or regulatory delivery programmes.

Earlier this year, it was awarded contracts to support Thames Water’s upgrade of assets as part of the water company’s Wastewater Asset Assurance Programme. Costain has also been conducting clay compaction trials to inform the designs for a new 150Mm3 reservoir in Oxfordshire.

Graham Sugrue, framework director at Costain, said: “We have an excellent working relationship with Thames Water and we’re looking forward to supporting as it expands its project management office to deliver critical infrastructure upgrades for AMP8 and beyond.

“These upgrades will provide essential water services to millions of Thames Water customers, improving people’s lives and the environment across the region.”
