The overriding vision for Nordhavnen is to become the sustainable city of the future

Ramboll has developed a holistic and integrated urban planning model which encapsulates the environmental, social, economic, and physical aspects of a city as whole system rather than treating each element of the urban environment, such as water or transport infrastructure, in isolation.

To promote liveability and sustainability, Nordhavn in Copenhagen has been designed as a “five minute city”, making it possible to reach shops, institutions, work places, cultural facilities and public transport within five minutes’ walk from any point in the district.

This approach combines strategic development that focuses on policy making, socioeconomics, and stakeholder management alongside urban master planning and detailed design of infrastructure, architecture, urban landscaping, and design.

These are central to the development of former industrial hub. The size of 625 football grounds, this is Scandinavia’s largest and most ambitious urban development project to date.

Nordhavnen is an opportunity for creating a neighbourhood which drastically rethinks how ways of living can be combined with sustainable energy, environment, traffic and cityscape solutions.
